Legacy Network empowers local communities
with history

| BLUE ASH, OH—Descendents of people who made history,
and their communities, should be involved in preserving their
legacy. That is the purpose of the Legacy Network, a partnership
between several universities and organizations including the
Raymond Walters College of the University of Cincinnati, Miami
University, Northern Kentucky University, the National Park
Service, and the Urban Appalachian Council.
Oloye Adeyemon, program coordinator, said the Legacy Network
aims to "gather, organize and preserve research data
drawn from archival and public memory resources. Important
history is often lost by not cultivating the community-based
resources we have." Though much work goes into the process
of cultivating the stories, a limitation with the project
has been the ability to preserve the work.
That will no longer be a challenge, says Steve Duff, president
of Life Capsule™, a local video production company.
Adeyemon and Duff recently met each other and quickly agreed
to form a partnership in which Life Capsule will add a new
dimension to the work of the Legacy Network.
“We will help record both individual and public memories
on film. But more importantly, we will be able to offer our
skills and resources in the creation of a narrative for community
members, as well as a final documentary about each community.
Life Capsule is able to offer our skills and resources in
the development of high-quality recordings, as well as historical
preservation. Everything will be saved in a digital format
so that generations from now, the work will not be lost. That’s
the whole point of the Legacy Network,” Duff said.
