| CINCINNATI, OH—On Saturday January 3, Steve Duff,
president and founder of Life Capsule, appeared as a guest
on the Channel 12 WKRC-TV Morning News program. Steve was
asked by news anchor Paula Toti to explain what Life Capsule
is all about, what kinds of services are provided, and how
those services are different from what an ordinary person
can create for themselves.
Video and transcript of the interview have been reprinted
here with permission from WKRC-TV.
Paula: Thank you, Steve, for joining
us this morning.
Steve: My pleasure, Paula.
Paula: The holidays are a good time
to think about family, and this is a good time to talk about
what you do. You preserve memories on a DVD, in a sense. Explain
what that's about. I mean, we can all use a video camera at
home. But why is your service different? What are you doing?

Steve: Well, this is actually a growing
trend in the country — to preserve people's histories in a
digital way and what we're lacking are professionals to help you
in that task. And so for the last two years, our company has set
out to design a system to professionally record people's stories
in a studio environment, and integrate photographs in with the film,
and edit the whole package onto a DVD.
Paula: So kinda, in a high-tech way, we're
used to seeing things well-produced now. You know, rather than the
shaky home videos. So it makes it easier to watch, more enjoyable.
Steve: Yes, oftentimes we sit around listening
to our grandma or grandpa or mom and dad tell us stories about their
lives but it just evaporates into the ether because it is never
recorded. And sadly, it's put off until it's too late and then you
wish you would have had a recording like that. And that's the reason
why I started Life Capsule. It's because I wish I had a recording
like that of my grandparents... and I don't. And so now I'm out
to help other families get that recording for themselves.
Paula: I would love to have my grandparents
like you said, I mean, it's just amazing. I've got old reel-to-reel
tape recordings of my parents' audio. I think about that technology
and how archaic that is — and now that we can do something
like this. It's like sitting in the living room with them.
Steve: Yes. And with today, the point is
that this affordable for everyday people. You know, ordinary people
have really great stories to tell and they're worth preserving.
Paula: So you bring in the family photos
along with this, you sit down for an interview, get it all packaged
up, and then you've really got something. Would you get copies for
other family members?
Steve: Yeah, sure. Copies are available
and we also keep a digital copy in our archives so that it will
be available 50, 100, 200 years from now.
Paula: Well, thank you.
Steve: Thank you very much, Paula.
Paula: Happy New Year to you.
Steve: Happy New Year to you, too.
